5 Reasons Makeup is Good for You

Hello, friends!

So we’re at the halfway mark of No Makeup November! (Also, it’s my roommate/friend’s birthday today! If you see Rachel, tell her happy birthday!)

So many sweet people have told me that they really admire what I’m doing, but that they could never work up the courage to do it themselves. I’m going to tell you what I told them:

That’s okay.

This no makeup thing is not for everyone! While I do think it’s definitely something healthy to do once in a while (not only for your complexion, but also for your mental wellbeing), I also don’t think it’s something that should be forced.

The last thing I want to do is push anyone into No Makeup November, because I feel like that would cause a lot of resentment. This is supposed to a fun, challenging, beautiful choice. No pressure, friends!

I want to assure you that I do not dislike makeup. I love it. What I dislike is the belief that we need makeup in order to be beautiful. That’s not okay.

Without further ado, the reason you’re all here.

5 Reasons Makeup is Good!

1. Makeup allows for creativity.

The main thing I miss about makeup is the fact that I get to do a little mini craft project on my face every day. I just love sitting down with my blank canvas of a face and seeing what new ways I can apply color to my eyes.

2. Makeup helps you look as good as you feel.

Some mornings I feel all peppy and ready to rock and roll…then I look in a mirror and see a big zit right in the middle of my forehead. Usually, some concealer can at least reduce redness (though it’s all but impossible to completely hide those bad boys.)

3. Whether we like it it or not, appearance matters.

First impressions are important. When you walk into an important interview, the way you look could make or break the interviewer’s decision of whether or not to hire you. You can blame sexism, Western Media, or whatever you like, but no matter what, it’s a fact.

4. Health benefits

A lot of tinted moisturizers have SPF in them, which is very important! Putting SPF on your face protects it from harmful sun damage. By protecting your skin from the sun, you can prevent signs of aging, and just keep your face looking healthy in general.

Also, tinted moisturizers have an obvious benefit: moisturizing. Your face needs that moisture to keep the cells all healthy and happy.

5. Boosts confidence

Let’s be real. Makeup makes you feel good about yourself. It helps you put your best face forward, and gives you the confidence you may need to make a memorable impression.

However, there is a very definite line between “wearing makeup to feel confident” and “wearing makeup  to feel like yourself.” Makeup shouldn’t be apart of who we are, it should be something that enhances our natural beauty. Kind of like a spotlight, you know?

Just something to think about.

HappyNovember!

With Love ❤
